A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC is Coming Up Next At Cygnet ImageCygnet is thrilled to revisit one of its favorite musicals, Stephen Sondheim's A Little Night Music, which was a hit with critics and audiences in 2008. The Tony Award winning musical is considered one of Sondheim's most beloved works, and features stunning melodies including the popular "Send in the Clowns". Cygnet's production is directed by Sean Murray and runs Mar. 7 - Apr. 22. Opening night for media is Mar. 10.

Inspired by the Ingmar Bergman film "Smiles of a Summer Night," this captivating and delightful tale of lost love and secret liaisons takes place in 1900's Sweden on a midsummer's eve at a country home. Desiree Armfeldt has always captured the hearts of men. When both of her lovers-and their wives-show up for a weekend in the country, a tangled web of love and desire lead to humorous and heartbreaking revelations. This musical is sophisticated, literate and stylish, but also disarmingly warm, funny, charming and very human. "I'm thrilled to be revisiting this luscious story about the follies of love", says Murray. "It's been a decade since we've staged it and it's exciting to approach the production with fresh eyes. I'm especially fascinated with the women and how they work through the minefield of the men's ego's as they navigate the process of realigning their mismatched partners."

The diverse cast of 16 actors includes artists seen in the 2008 production as well as some new faces. Director Sean Murray (On the 20th Century) will reprise his role of Frederick Egerman. Desiree Armfeldt will be played by Karole Foreman (Stupid F**king Bird). The talented cast also includes Sandy Campbell (Assassins, A Little Night Music; 2008), Megan Carmitchel (Big Fish; Lamb's Players Theatre), Nickolas Eiter (The Addams Family; Moonlight Stage Productions), Joseph Grienenberger (Titanic; Moonlight Stage Productions), Christine Hewitt (Tomfoolery; North Coast Repertory Theatre), David Humphrey (A Little Night Music; 2008), Cody Ingram (The Producers; San Diego Musical Theatre), Catie Marron (Fly by Night; Coronado Playhouse), Anise Ritchie (Big Fish; Lamb's Players Theatre), Jake Rosko (The North Plan, Ion Theatre), Katie Sapper (A Christmas Carol), and Debra Wanger (On the 20th Century). The role of Frederika Armfeldt is double cast with Ava Harris (How the Grinch Stole Christmas; The Old Globe) and Faith Nibbe (How the Grinch Stole Christmas; The Old Globe).

The live orchestra will led by musical director Terry O'Donnell. The production features set design by Sean Fanning, costume design by Jeanne Reith, lighting design by Chris Rynne, and sound design by Chad Lee Thymes. Wigs and makeup will be created by Peter Herman. Craig Campbell will stage manage. Tickets are on sale now and may be purchased in person at the box office located at 4040 Twiggs Street in San Diego Old Town Historic State Park, by calling 619-337-1525 or by visiting www.cygnettheatre.com.
