The Public Theater Of San Antonio Presents ASSASSINS ImageThis controversial musical boldly transcends time as the assassins justify their actions with wit, humor, and a sense of understanding. Everybody's right to the American Dream juxtaposed with dark motives will alter your perception of history and the conspiracies that formed our great nation.

*Contains adult themes and content that may not be suitable for all audiences

While this production focuses on the individuals that either succeeded or attempted to assassinate a President, there is a much deeper message. A topic that has existed for decades and has now come to the forefront of our debate. While gun control seems to be to leading point of the discussion, we must also find an understanding of what it is that draws a person to violence. When the riches, the fame, and (most importantly), the love is not found- violence is the easiest way to be heard... to be valued... to be remembered. For me this is the American loophole. History shows us that this is not a new problem. It is simply a growing one.

In discussion with the performers of the show, one noted that, 'if we can first have our audience understand that these are actual humans, that this world still actually exists (and it does)... then perhaps they, too, will realize that anyone... including them, could turn to such an act."

Anika Chapin wrote, "Theater can force us to confront and examine the darkest parts of ourselves in the confines of a dark room, in the safety of what is essentially make believe. It can show us people whose actions seem monstrous and put us temporarily in their shoes, so that we might understand their motives. It is only by facing these people and experiencing this radical empathy that we can hope to change."
