The Magik Theatre has released the following statement regarding its closure:
As a non-profit in service of San Antonio's youth and families, the health and safety of our patrons is Magik's highest priority. Magik has been monitoring the situation regarding COVID-19 closely and are taking steps to prevent the introduction and spread of this virus into our community.
Based on the recommendation of the CDC, local government officials have advised organizations to limit all ongoing activities to under 50 people in attendance. In support of our community's efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, The Magik Theatre will temporarily close its doors through May, 2020 with a limited staff working to accommodate day-to-day necessities. Effective immediately, all scheduled performances, camps, and classes have been canceled through May, 2020. Magik is looking forward to resuming performances of Dragons Love Tacos when we reopen our doors, welcoming back the bright, shining faces of our young community.
Programs affected by this closure include the following:
Magik Spring Academy classes, including the Academy Showcase
All remaining performances of Dragons Love Tacos, originally scheduled from March 6 through April 11, 2020
The Theatre for the Very Young performance of Everything is Round on March 28, 2020 at The DoSeum
Magik on the Road touring performances until further notice
Magik's annual fundraising gala, Ignite the Imagination, originally scheduled for March 28, 2020
If patrons have tickets to a performance or purchased a class that has been canceled, please consider crediting it towards a future show or program, or transferring the amount to a donation to benefit the theatre. If patrons wish to receive a refund, please contact the box office at info@magiktheatre.org.
We will continue to monitor the situation and update our website and social media accounts accordingly. We are following the guidelines provided by The City of San Antonio, the Texas Health and Human Services Department, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
"The mission of Magik is even more crucial in times of uncertainty. Storytelling, education, and entertainment connect us as a community. We all deserve a little bit of Magik in our lives," CEO Frank Villani and Artistic Director Anthony Runfola said in a joint statement. "Even though many people will not be able to see our performances in person, our artists and teachers are exploring new ways to engage our audiences online with meaningful programming. Be sure to stay tuned and follow our social media to see how you can get involved!"
