Summer Stages: Summer's Sure to Entertain in San Antonio

San Antonio is full of fun and exciting theme parks such as SeaWorld and Fiesta Texas to entertain families. But if indoor events are more to your liking during the hot summer days and nights, San Antonio has a lot of great events to enjoy at the many theaters in the area.

WOODLAWN THEATRE

This summer there are many opportunities for your children ages 5-17 with their summer camps that include BROADWAY BOUND (June 9-27), CAMP TARZAN (June 30-July 11), and HAPPILY EVER AFTER (July 14-August 1). Students can learn about being a part of a big production and then there will be chance for the public to come and watch their performances. Also along with the children's shows, the Woodlawn Theatre will be presenting TARZAN from June 20-July 20. Then, from August 15- September 14, SMOKEY JOE'S CAFÉ comes to the Woodlawn Theatre. And don't forget their ongoing BROADWAY NIGHTS every Saturday night at 10:30. It features established and up and coming artists and there is never a cover charge. THE PLAYHOUSE SAN ANTONIO

Summer camps are available for children ages 5-12 and 9-18. Classes for the younger ones include CAMP CREATIVITY from June 9-20 and AUDITIONING FOR FILM (for students ages 5-12) from July 7-11. For the older children, classes include BITE SIZE THEATER from June 16-20 DESIGN CAMP from June 23-27, AUDITIONING FOR FILM (for students ages 13-18) from July 14-18 and the WIZARD OF OZ Camp from July 21-August 1. Summer shows include DEAD MAN'S CELL PHONE from May 16-June 1, FUNNY GIRL from June 6-29, and The Who's TOMMY from August 1-24. You can go to their website for more details and tickets.

CAMEO THEATRE

Summer shows continue at the Cameo Theatre and include a great production of BREAKING UP IS HARD TO DO that plays from May 31-June 29. Then from July 12-August 10 RED RIVER THE ADVENTURES OF HUCKLEBERRY FINN will be presented at the Cameo Theatre. Go to their website for tickets.

OVERTIME THEATER

San Antonio's Overtime Theater is a small theater with a lot of great shows being presented this summer. Shows at the Gregg Barrios Theater include GLEN OR GLENDA from June 13-July 12 and THE PROFESSIONALS from July 25-August 23. Presented in The Stables this summer are CLONSTER from June 6-June 14, BREATHER from June 27-July 6 and THE QUEEN'S CASTLE from August 8-September 27. MAJESTIC/EMPIRE THEATRES

With a late Broadway show coming to the Majestic this year, theater goers can enjoy SISTER ACT at the Majestic from June 24-29. And for the first time, Las Casas Foundation will be sponsoring a special youth program called CAMP BROADWAY for your aspiring youth build confidence and learn more about an authentic Broadway rehearsal process. It will run from August 4-8. Check out the Majestic's website to find out all the details.
