The Playhouse - San Antonio recently announced that it will temporarily close its 83-year-old Russell Hill Rogers Theater in order to conduct some much needed renovations to the theater's roof and ceiling. During the renovation, The Playhouse will present Ragtime, a classic musical of three extraordinary families in America at the turn of the twentieth century, at the historic Charline McCombs Empire Theatre. The Playhouse is thrilled to take this captivating tale to the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre and embark on this exciting journey.

The repair work, which is slated to begin soon, stems from the considerable damage that the Russell Hill Rogers Theater sustained during the storms and floods San Antonio experienced in late May.

In an e-mail sent to subscribers and patrons, The Playhouse's President and CEO, Asia Ciaravino praised the City of San Antonio's response to the needs of the Russell Hill Rogers Theater. "The City of San Antonio took action immediately," said Ciaravino, "engaging architects and engineers to assess the building and provide us with a game plan for continuing with our mission to provide our community with high quality, live theatre - without interruption."

Though the initial plan was to present Ragtime in the Russell Hill Rogers Theater as scheduled, The Playhouse eventually realized that they would need to move the production to effectively conduct the repairs. Says Ciaravino, "This week, we began the process of repairing our beloved building and have found it necessary to close the Russell Hill Rogers Theater temporarily. While this is unfortunate news, we are delighted at the promise of a brand new roof and ceiling!"

RAGTIME musically weaves together the stories of three extraordinary families, who confront history's timeless contradictions of wealth and poverty, freedom and prejudice, hope and despair and what it means to live in America. Produced by The Playhouse - San Antonio, Ragtime is directed by Molly Cox with choreography by Lizel Sandoval and musical direction by Darrin Newhardt. The cast of Ragtime includes Sarah L. Hendrick, David Nanny-Isban as Tateh, and Edward Burkley as Coalhouse Walker, Jr.

Ragtime plays the Charline McCombs Empire Theatre at 226 N. St. Mary's St, San Antonio, TX 78205 July 26th - August 18th, 2013. Performances are Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm and Sundays at 2:30pm. Tickets are $25 for Adults, $20 for Seniors (60+), Emergency Services, and Military with ID, $15 for Students, and $10 for Children (12 and under). An additional processing fee per ticket may apply.
