You're singing it already, aren't you? If you're lucky enough to be in the audience for the touring production of Disney's Mary Poppins, currently talking shop at the Majestic Theatre, you'll be singing along and tapping your toes in no time!
Disney's Mary Poppins musical is a faithful adaption of the classic movie starring Julie Andrews. Its original songs were preserved, and a few new tunes were written just for the musical, all combining to make a fun evening for patrons of all ages.Admittedly, I did not grow up with Mary Poppins, for unknown reasons. I did finally watch it as an adult, and while a the movie's magic fell a little short of striking my fancy (blasphemous to many, I'm sure), the musical was much more successful! The combination of familiar music, wonderful sets, fun special effects and great choreography make for a wonderful composition. My one and only criticism is of personal opinion - it needs more Mary! I was far less interested in the Banks parents' personal strife than I was Mary's chipper, slightly snarky, no-nonsense attitude and magic tricks. Regardless of this, it was still immensely enjoyable, and if you have the time, I recommend you experience it. This week's viewing at the Majestic was actually my second experience in a Poppins audience, and I have an inkling it won't be my last!
Currently starring Rachel Wallace as a practically perfect Mary Poppins, the production will be playing the Majestic Theatre through Sunday, October 9. Tickets are available through the box office or Ticketmaster.Videos
