The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts today announced the performance calendar for its inaugural 2014-15 season, with a total of 33 productions, performing groups and individual artists - exclusive of September grand opening events and subscription performances by its resident companies. The initial schedule totals 73 performances. And, there are more to come.

San Antonio's new performing arts center will feature a wide array of performances, covering theatrical productions, concerts, fine arts, comedy, speakers, family and dance.

Among productions and performers booked so far are legendary comedian Bill Cosby, pianist Lang Lang (co-promoted with the San Antonio Symphony), "A Prairie Home Companion" creator and host Garrison Keillor (co-promoted with Innovative Arts and Entertainment), Country Music Hall of Fame member Don Williams, singer Arlo Guthrie performing Alice's Restaurant for its 50th Anniversary, Dave Mason's Traffic Jam, improvisational comedians Colin Mochrie and Brad Sherwood, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra with Wynton Marsalis (co-promoted with ARTS San Antonio), "Dinosaur Train Live!" and "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" for the family series and "A Streetcar Named Desire" performed as a ballet by the Scottish National Ballet (co-promoted with ARTS San Antonio).

Six theatrical productions will comprise The Tobin Signature Series, with tickets sold initially by subscription. Broadway musical productions include "Jekyll and Hyde," "Nice Work If You Can Get It," "50 Shades! The Musical" and "Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story." The series also includes the Cirque Productions' spectacular "Cirque Dreams - Holidaze," and "One Drop of Love," Fanshen Cox DiGiovanni's powerful, one-woman show, produced by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, about a daughter's search for her father's racial approval. The Tobin Signature Series offers a four show package for as little as $124.

All of the Tobin's performance spaces - the H-E-B Performance Hall, the Alvarez Family Studio Theater and The River Walk Plaza - will be utilized over the course of the season.

"There is tremendous variety here and it demonstrates what an addition The Tobin Center will be for San Antonio and Bexar County," said J. Bruce Bugg Jr., Chairman of the Bexar County Performing Arts Center Foundation, which is constructing and owns The Tobin Center for the Performing Arts. "We are committed to making The Tobin, with its world-class acoustics, the best place to see and hear a live performance, and this first season will showcase every aspect of this wonderful new facility."

"We are working very hard to live up to our motto of 'something for everyone' as we book dates for our first season," said Tobin Center CEO Michael J. Fresher, "and we will be adding even more dates as opportunities surface in the coming months. As performers and producers finalize schedules for 2014-2015, we will see availability for even more bookings."

Aaron Zimmerman, Tobin Center senior director for programming and marketing, said, "Putting this first season together has been like playing chess, as we have sought great variety with popular performers and productions, while working around the schedules of our ten resident companies, galas and other events."

Tickets for these performances go on sale April 26 at 10:00 a.m. and can be purchased by going to www.tobincenter.org or by calling 210-223-8624. Ticketing for all events at The Tobin Center, as well as Tobin and resident company events at venues outside of the center, will be fulfilled through an in-house ticketing system, aptly named TOBi.

To date, 243 total performances are scheduled for The Tobin Center in its first year of operations (including the performances booked by The Tobin and those of its 10 resident companies), and another 127 performance rehearsals and private events have been booked.

Tobin Center resident companies include the San Antonio Symphony, The Opera San Antonio, Ballet San Antonio, the Chamber Orchestra of San Antonio, SOLI Chamber Ensemble, San Antonio Chamber Choir, Youth Orchestras of San Antonio, the Children's Chorus of San Antonio, the Children's Fine Arts Series, and AtticRep Theater.

The Tobin Center will open September, 2014. The Tobin is a $203 million project, funded by Bexar County bond proceeds, a contribution of land and buildings from the City of San Antonio and by private donations.
