Classic Theatre to Move Into Woodlawn Black Box Theatre, Jan 2014

The Classic Theatre of San Antonio has signed a letter of intent for residency in the Black Box at the Woodlawn Theatre, 1920 Fredricksburg Road, beginning January, 2014. The Woodlawn was originally opened in 1946 and is designated by The City of San Antonio as an historic structure with its beautifully restored 350-seat proscenium theater. The 100-seat Black Box Theater was added during recent renovations.

The Woodlawn, Inc. has established itself as a leader in the San Antonio theatre community with its year round children's theatre program and a season of high quality productions of popular musicals and plays. Combined with The Classic Theatre's excellent reputation for producing popular classics and forgotten masterpieces, this partnership has limitless possibilities.

"We are very excited about this new collaboration with The Classic Theatre," said Kurt Wehner, executive director for the Woodlawn. "We love the universal themes of unity and understanding that are celebrated through their work and are delighted to join forces with them in bringing even more quality theatre into the Deco District."

Plans for The Classic Theatre of San Antonio's 2013-14 Season remain unchanged. The Season begins at The Sterling Houston Theater in the Blue Star Arts Complex with Proof by David Auburn in August, Taming of the Shrew by William Shakespeare in November, and the radio show It's a Wonderful Life by Joe Landry in December. In January, The Classic Theatre will move all operations into the Black Box space at the Woodlawn for the opening of Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller in February and Private Lives by Noel Coward in May.

The Classic Theatre of San Antonio remains enthusiastic about the future and its devotion to providing the quality Classic Theatre that San Antonio audiences have grown to love. The support of the community at large and the patrons is essential in this transition into a new era of The Classic Theatre of San Antoni

The Woodlawn, Inc., is a non-profit organization established in 2012, devoted to creating opportunities for its surrounding community by providing quality, entertaining, educational, and affordable programming for all ages, In the heart of the Deco District, the historic Woodlawn Theatre is located at 1920 Fredericksburg Road, just south of Hildebrand.
