The Mel Brooks musical adaptation of his 1974 film Young Frankenstein is currently playing at San Antonio's Majestic Theatre.

If you're like me, Young Frankenstein is one of your favorite Mel Brooks films, putting a hilarious and decidedly dirty spin on Mary Shelley's classic book, Frankenstein.  Classic one-liners such as "roll in the hay" and "put the candle back" are all present in this adaption, accentuated with periodic song and dance.  It follows its namesake film's plot as young Dr. Frederick Frankenstein learns of the death of his controversial mad scientist grandfather, living in Transylvania Heights.  He travels to settle the estate, only to run into a host of characters eager for him to resume his late grandfather's work, including Igor (that's pronounced with a long "I"), a buxom blonde laboratory assistant named Inga, and Castle Frankenstein housekeeper Frau Blucher, whose very name strikes unrest in the resident horses.

Starring Roger Bart (you may know him as George, Bree's deceased husband on Desperate Housewives) as Dr. Frederick Frankenstein from the original Broadway cast, Rye Mullis as The Monster, Cory English as ridiculously funny Igor, Brad Oscar as Inspector Kemp/Hermit, Beth Curry as the Doctor's fiancee, Joanna Glushak as Frau Blucher *insert horses' whinny here*, and Anne Horak as Inga, Young Frankenstein and its incredible lead cast and ensemble give the show its proper dues.  Full of perfectly timed one-liners, physical comedy, and hilarious musical numbers, Young Frankenstein is a show for any fan of comedy, musical otherwise.  And if you're a Mel Brooks fan?  Get ye to the Majestic!

Young Frankenstein opened on Broadway in November 2007 and ran for 484 performances before closing in January 2009.  It subsequently launched a National Tour and has been chugging cross-country ever since.

Young Frankenstein is running at the Majestic through June 13, 2010 and tickets are available through BroadwayAcrossAmerica.com, and make sure you leave the kiddos at home for this one.
