RIVERDANCE has been entertaining audiences around the globe and has enjoyed a great success. As the 20th Anniversary Tour travels around North America, one of their dancers, Emma Warren, shared with BWW her love of dancing and the continued success of RIVERDANCE.

When did you first get interested in dancing?

I started Irish dancing when I was three or four years of age. I was really young because my mom is an Irish dancing teacher. I used to go along with her to classes as a hobby. I learned dancing all the way growing up. It's quite a popular thing to do when you're growing up in Ireland. You might learn it after school or in school. And a lot of people do it as a hobby so it's not unusual to start that young. It was only then when I got a little bit older I realized that this is what I would like to do. And with RIVERDANCE, it started to become a reality that you can make a career in something like this. It was always something that I watched on the TV or went to see it at the theater. I never imagined that I could be a part of until I reached my teenage years. I thought that I could work really hard at this and that I could try my best to get in then eventually I did.

Do you remember your first dance performance? What was that like?

I used to perform any chance that I got. I was always performing in front of people. It was instinct. It was always what I thought I would end up doing. I never thought it would be with a show as big as RIVERDANCE.

You have been all over the world and performed in some great places. What are some of your favorite places you have performed?

I have to say Japan was probably my favorite place. It was the most unusual. I really enjoyed that. The audiences there were fantastic. China was another place that we went to that was incredible. That was a really amazing experience because that was someplace I probably never would have gone if it hadn't been for the show. Then, most recently, I loved San Francisco. I think that's been my favorite place on this American tour so far.

When did you first get involved with RIVERDANCE?

I've been with RIVERDANCE for four years now. My first tour, I was very lucky, I got to go to Australia and New Zealand. That was just after I finished college. I just started touring in the United States in September.

If you had not become a dancer, what do you think you would have done?

I love to sing as well so it would have definitely been in performing. I couldn't imagine myself doing anything else.

RIVERDANCE plays at the Majestic Theatre in San Antonio February 26-28, 2016. Tickets are limited but can be purchased at the Majestic Box Office or online.
