Backstage at Oz is a comedy musical that follows the backstage antics of a group of six actors and a director who are taking part in a stage production of The Wizard of Oz.

There is a pompous Shakespearian actor who thinks his role as Oz (Richard Solis) is beneath him, a nervous drunk playing the Cowardly Lion (Dave Cortez), a practiced extravert playing the Tin Man (Jose DeHoyos), a sharp-tongued cynic playing Glinda the Good Witch (Whitney Marlett) and a more easygoing actress playing The Wicked Witch (Nicole Erwin). The Pollyanna nature of the actress playing Dorothy (Jayme Seward) fits the part aside from her top heavy build. The actors pull together later after the Munchkins go on strike demanding bigger pay for little people.

The musical has handful of ATAC award-winning actors, educators, and directors who have worked with San Antonio's Magik Children's Theater. Cortez is a founding Company member of The Magik Theatre and former Artistic Director of the Cameo Theatre. Multi-award winning Director, Greg Hinojosa formerly with The Woodlawn Theatre, is the Artistic Advisor at The Magik Theater and is serving as the show's Artistic Advisor. Richard Solis who plays Oz, is also a founding company member of the Magik with over 24 years of stage experience there. Nicole Erwin, co-producer and playing the role of the Wicked Witch, has sung with the Symphony Mastersingers and was the first Teaching Artist for "Magik Glee Choir" with the Magik Theatre. Jose DeHoyos, who plays the Tin Man, is an Adjunct Professor at San Antonio College and is the Fine Arts Program Coordinator at Southwest ISD. "Having talent like this is perfect for this type of comedic show", Erwin said.

Oz is the second of productions by Bernard J. Taylor planned at Woodlawn Pointe (directly opposite Jefferson High School). The show will be presented in the Auditorium which seats 300. Woodlawn Pointe is located in a very pleasant neighborhood with easy parking.
