GOOD COMPANY THEATRE LOGS ON TO A FANTASY UNDERWORLD IN THE UTAH PREMIERE OF JENNIFER HALEY’S “THE NETHER”
Ogden, Utah—Good Company Theatre is excited to present the Utah Premiere of Ovation award winning play The Nether by Jennifer Haley.
Sometime in the near future, The Nether is virtual place where actual desires are lived in vivid detail. Cyberspace Detective Morris (Alicia Washington) has investigated a fiercely protected location called The Hideaway. There, Sims (Jake Holt) invites people with similar tastes to act out their most secret impulses without fear of consequence. As Morris delves deeper, she targets the beloved center of Papa’s fantasy world, Iris (Riley Allen), to help expose his true identity. The closer she gets to closing the case, the more immersed she becomes, and it grows unclear whether or not she can pull herself out.
“We live so much of our lives online now,” explains Good Company Theatre co-director Camille Washington. “Jennifer Haley has created a believable and unsettling future in The Nether, where people are able to fully act out their darkest fantasies in near realism.”
“The Nether explores opposing facets of the modern psyche,” says show Director Nicole Finney. “By doing so, Jennifer Haley opens up a discussion about what it means to be human.”
This production features performances by Riley Allen, Jake Holt (Rock of Ages, Fairly Potter), Paul Naylor (Appropriate, The Waiters), and Alicia Washington (Avenue Q, Caroline or Change). It is directed by Nicole Finney (The Appeal, Cowboy Mouth).
The Nether runs October 7-23, Thursdays-Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 4pm. It contains disturbing content, including implied violence against children and explicit adult language. Discretion is strongly advised. Ages 16 and older recommended.
Tickets are available for $17 at goodcotheatre.com or at the door before each show.
