GOOD COMPANY THEATRE PRESENTS “THE FLICK” BY ANNIE BAKER
November 6 - 22 | Thursdays - Saturdays at 8pm | Sundays at 4pm
Ogden, Utah--Good Company Theatre is proud to announce the Utah Premiere of 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Drama winner The Flick, by Annie Baker. At one of the last movie theaters in Massachusetts that uses a 35mm film projector, things plod on as they have for a long time. For employees Avery, Rose, and Sam, the daily monotony of their work becomes a backdrop for the small milestones in their lives. As they sweep, mop, and tend to the projector, they hope to find relationships and experiences that feel more real.
“The Flick is one of the best slice-of-life plays in recent memory,” asserts Good Company Theatre Co-Director Alicia Washington. “Annie Baker’s insight into how relationships with coworkers define so much of our lives is remarkable.”
“Part of what’s so captivating about The Flick is the way the Annie Baker brings quiet realism into the dramatic space of the theatre,” explains show Director Trent Cox. “The characters feel like real people with real issues they work through in real time.”
Playwright Anne Baker is author of several award-winning plays, including Circle Mirror Transformation (2010 Obie Award for Best New American Play), and The Aliens (2010 Obie Award for Best New American Play). In addition to winning the 2014 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, The Flick received the Susan Smith Blackburn Award, and the 2013 Obie Award for Playwriting. Baker is also the recipient of a 2014 Guggenheim Fellowship, an American Academy of Arts and Letters Award, a
Hull-Warriner Award, a Steinberg Award, and the Cullman Fellowship at the New York Public Library.
This production features David A. Boice as Sam, Avery Franklin as Avery, Kaylee Lloyd as Rose, and Alex Van Dyke as Skylar/The Dreaming Man. Director Trent Cox returns to Good Company Theatre for the first time since directing The Waiters in 2014.
The Flick includes frequent strong language and suggestive adult content. It is not recommended for audiences under age 16. Tickets are available for $15 online at goodcotheatre.com, and will also be available for $17 at the door before each performance.
Good Company Theatre develops and promotes high-quality, eclectic theatrical productions and events, forging new relationships between audiences, performers, and spaces in the process.
