directed by Jeremy Garrett
This comic, expressionist play follows the exploits of Mr. Zero, a hard-working Everyman, as he toils through his inconsequential existence as just another office drone. When he discovers, after 25 years of dedication to his job, that he will be fired and replaced by a machine, Mr. Zero kills his boss. He is tried and punished for murder, and his soul goes to an afterlife called the Elysian Fields, but even there he is told he is just a “waste product” and needs to move along. This “landmark of American Expressionism” features the perfect anti-hero, whose life is a litany of missed opportunities and disappointments from which he is unable to learn.
