Good Company Theatre is ecstatic to announce the hit musical Green Day's American Idiot. It features songs from the punk band's iconic album of the same name, and a story by Tony Award winner Michael Mayer. This is the third annual musical to be presented by Good Company Theatre at Ogden Amphitheater.
Lifelong friends Johnny, Tunny, and Will find themselves at a crossroads in their boring suburban town. Do they stay and do nothing with their lives, or do they leave and fulfill a grander destiny? Johnny dreams of a life as a rocker in the big city. Tunny seeks direction by joining the military. Will ends up right back where he started but with greater family responsibilities.
Through love and loss, addiction and revulsion, and a whole lot of angst and rebellion, the three men come to terms with living in contemporary America without being consumed by it.
"Green Day's American Idiot is electric," enthuses Good Company Theatre Co-Director Alicia Washington. "This passionate story is non-stop, almost like a rock opera, with enough heart to fill a stadium."
"Aesthetically, the show is Green Day if they’d never gotten famous," explains show Director and Choreographer Austin Archer. "Every character in this musical mosh pit is fighting to simultaneously stay in and keep the rush going for as long as it can, and to get out and move on with their lives. They’re fighting because they don't want to be just another American idiot."
Green Day's American Idiot is Music Directed by Ginger Bess (Passion, In The Heights), and features Timothy Swensen as Johnny (The Drowsy Chaperone, Romeo and Juliet), Taylor Knuth as Tunny (Pirated!, Hairspray), Sean Bishop as Will (Pirated!, Xanadu), Savannah Moffat as Whatshername (Herakles, Love's Labour's Lost), Liz Corona as Extraordinary Girl (In the Heights, Pirated!), and Caroline Hanks as Heather (The Addams Family, Spring Awakening).
The musical runs August 16-27, Thursdays-Mondays at Ogden Amphitheater. Doors open at 7:30pm, and showtime is at 8:00pm. Reserved seats are $25, and general admission is $20 at www.goodcotheatre.com. Tickets will also be for sale at the box office before each show.
Green Day's American Idiot is recommended for mature audiences only. It contains strong language, implied drug use, dramatization of war, and other adult situations.
Presented with the generous support of Weber County RAMP, Ogden City Arts, and Ogden City Amphitheater.
