GOOD COMPANY THEATRE DISCOVERS DARK FAMILY SECERETS IN THE UTAH PREMIERE OF
“APPROPRIATE” BY BRANDEN JACOBS-JENKINS
April 29-May 15 | Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays at 8pm | Sundays at 4pm
Ogden, Utah-- Good Company Theatre is pleased to announce the Utah Premiere of Appropriate by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, a biting comedic drama about family and denial.
From their scattered posts across the United States, the Lafayette siblings have all but left behind their
Arkansas roots. The only thing holding them to their family home was their father, a well-known judge turned obsessive pack rat, and he just passed away. When Toni, Franz, and Bo gather their families
and converge on his home to settle the estate, they bicker and fight like nothing has changed. As they dig through years of hoarded belongings, they find a scrapbook of ghastly images that turns everything about their forced reunion on its head.
“Family dramas are the bread and butter of the American Theatre tradition, and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins manipulates the genre with great style,” show Director and Good Company Theatre Co-Director Alicia Washington reflects. “Appropriate is as funny as it is eye opening.”
Appropriate features performances by David A. Boice (The Flick, Race), Liggera Edmonds-Allen(Chicago, Beauty and The Beast), Nicole Finney (Under Construction, Breaking The Shakespeare Code), Sahna Foley (Rabbit Hole, Mr. Marmalade), Seth Foster (Nice Work If You Can Get It, RENT),Paul Naylor (The Waiters), Matthew Rees (The Music Man, Addams Family), and Teresa Sanderson
(Wit, August: Osage County).
Branden Jacobs-Jenkins (b. 1984, Washington DC) received an OBIE Award for Best New American Play (2014), and an Outer Critics Circle nomination for Appropriate. Other plays include plays include Neighbors, War, and Gloria. He is currently a Residency Five playwriting fellow at Julliard. Other
honors include the Paula Vogel Award, a Fulbright Arts Grant, a Helen Merrill Award, the Dorothy Strelsin playwriting fellowship, and the inaugural Tennessee Williams Award.
