Activate your imagination with illusions of floating, delusions that arise in the dark, dreams of hope renewed, and the nightmare of losing a loved one. These are just a few of the images presented in movement by Salt Lake Community College Dance Company in their annual Spring concert titled, Illusions and Delusions. All the dances featured in this performance are based on the dreams, nightmares, illusions and delusions of the choreographers and dancers. This is a multi-media performance with live music, projected images and film coordinated with dance.

The performance presents the best of SLCC student choreography, as well as dances by community professionals and college faculty, press notes state. The community professionals include Ro Malaga, principal dancer in all the High School Musical movies, Maria Ivanova, of DF Dance Studio, and Effren Corado, offering a high-energy contemporary piece. SLCC dance faculty, Rosie Banchero, is presenting an Afro-Jazz dance, highlighting the historical connection of the genres and featuring live drummers. Erica Womack, also a dance faculty, choreographed a modern piece based on the moments of half-sleep we all experience.

About this performance, Tess Boone, company director and Associate Professor of Dance explained, “This concert has a lot of variety and an engaging visual sense that will appeal to our digitally sophisticated audience. It is a good example of our commitment to the convergence of technology and performing arts here at SLCC.”

The concert will be presented on Friday and Saturday, April 6 and 7, 2012, at 7:30 p.m. in the Grand Theater, 1575 South State Street.
