On the heels of a guest appearance in the final performance of Broadway's School of Rock on January 20th, original cast member and singer-songwriter Ava Della Pietra will travel to the 2019 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah to perform her original music across three performances on January 26th-27th. The 13-year-old is gearing up for the release of a debut EP later this year, featuring material she collaborated on with producers Will Hicks (Ed SHeeran, Jamie Lawson) and Brian Malouf (Michael Jackson, Colbie Caillat), as well as songwriters Jeff Franzel and Andy Marvel.
A supporter of the nonprofit organization No Bully, a national program that leverages student empathy to stop bullying and cyberbullying, Ava is dedicated to advocating for young people, inspiring others to believe in themselves and follow their dreams. Her song "Rising Star" is about "showing others that it's possible to do what you love," and "Reflection" is about growing up and trying to find yourself. Inspired by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ava's song "Forgotten" is dedicated to the people of Puerto Rico suffering in the aftermath of Hurricane Maria, and her song "Hear My Cry," written in part as a Christmas present for her older brother, was inspired by the devastating stories of families torn apart on the southern border. In 2016 Ava teamed up with Broadway Kids Against Bullying to release the song "I have a Voice," with profits going to support the No Bully organization.
A multi-instrumentalist who plays piano, bass, guitar, violin, fiddle, and ukulele, Ava began performing at age four and writing songs at age five. She performed on the national tours of Les Misérables and White Christmas before joining the original cast of School of Rock, and has been featured on Good Morning America, Sesame Street, the 70th Annual Tony Awards, and Last Week Tonight with John Oliver. She recently performed the National Anthem at Madison Square Garden in front of 20,000 Knicks fans.
