Ryan Innes, who gained even more fans after his win at the 2012 Stadium of Fire talent contest, will bring his live show to a much more intimate venue when he performs at the SCERA Center for the Arts Feb. 9 and share the music he calls "fat and sassy."

The concert will begin at 7 p.m. in Showhouse II, and reserved seat tickets for adults at $10 and children, students and seniors at $8 are available at scera.org, weekdays from 10am-6pm at the SCERA (745 S. State, Orem), or by calling (801) 225-ARTS.

Innes has originally planned to go to medical school, but when a cancelled wedding broke his heart three weeks before the ceremony, he evaluated what he really wanted to do and chose music. Not wanting to teach, he auditioned for and was accepted into BYU's media music program to study songwriting and contemporary voice.

Innes' brand of fresh and funky soul has been described this way: "If Michael Buble and Joni Mitchell had a child raised by Jimmy Hendrix and babysat by Norah Jones, that child would be Ryan Innes."

SCERA President & CEO Adam J. Robertson is thrilled to have Ryan on the schedule. "He's just the very essence of cool...a super talented guy with the whole package. He's witty, his lyrics are smart, and his voice is pure silk."

The music battles with his mother have paid off. He honed his voice in the popular BYU a cappella group Vocal Point, graduated from college, and released a self-titled CD.

He has said, "I share my music because I can't help but not [share it]. It just comes out of me. It's how I mourn, rejoice, cope, laugh, love. It's my primary outlet," adding that he loves the craft of writing "amazing and clever, but concise and emotive lyrics."
