Photo Flash: The British Royal Family Comes to Pioneer Theatre in KING CHARLES III

Pioneer Theatre Company presents King Charles III by Mike Bartlett, a 2015 Tony Award Nominee for Best Play. This future history play runs March 24 - April 8, 2017.

The British royal family is thrown into riveting palace intrigues following Queen Elizabeth's death as Prince Charles prepares to ascend to the throne. But what do Prince William, Princess Kate and Prince Harry really think about their father's ascension to the throne? King Charles III explores the intricacies of modern monarchy and introduces us to the people beneath the crowns.

The New York Times called the clever and timely play a "flat-out brilliant portrait of a monarchy in crisis."

The production includes Equity cast members J. Todd Adams, Larry Bull, Samantha Eggers, John Ford-Dunker, Monique Fowler, Grant Goodman, John Hutton, JESS NAHIKIAN and Max Robinson.

John Hutton plays King Charles III, the troubled and haunted new king. Hutton is debuting at PTC as part of his long career in theatre, television and film, including 23 years at DCPA Theatre Company. He has performed in Great Expectations at Portland Center Stage and Our Town at Northern Stage, as well New York productions of as You Will Remember Me at Hudson Stage Company and Yours Unfaithfully at The Mint.

Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, is played by Monique Fowler, who has performed leading roles in classic and contemporary works on Broadway, off-Broadway and in regional theatres across the country. She is also a playwright and director. This summer, she will direct Anton Chekov's The Cherry Orchard at the Bagaduce Theatre in Brooksville, Maine, where she is the artistic director.

Grant Goodman plays Prince William, returning to Utah after performing at the Utah Shakespeare Festival. His Utah credits include The Taming of the Shrew, Twelfth Night, Sense and Sensibility and Macbeth, in which he played the title role. He has also been seen in the National Tour of The Merchant of Venice, off-Broadway in Antony & Cleopatra, The Merchant of Venice, King Lear, The Iliad, Richard II, Pericles, in regional productions across the country and in film and television.

Prince William's wife, Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, is played by Samantha Eggers. Eggers's recent regional credits include A Midsummer Night's Dream, Pride and Prejudice, What the Butler Saw, Hero!, The Fox and the Fairway, The Glass Menagerie and Lily's Revenge. She also performed in the Broadway production and National Tour of Mamma Mia!.

John Ford-Dunker plays Prince Harry. His regional credits include Red at Geva Theatre, That High and Lonesome Sound, So Unnatural a Level, Dracula and A Christmas Carol at Actors Theatre of Louisville, Hands on a Hardbody at Park Playhouse, Macbeth at Old Hat Theatre Company and others.

JESS NAHIKIAN plays Jess, Prince Harry's clever and revolutionary new friend. Nahikian is making her PTC debut after spending the last four years in the U.K., where she studied at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. Some of her theatre credits include Alithea in The Country Wife, Margaret in The 39 Steps and Mustardseed in A Midsummer Night's Dream.

PTC veteran actor Max Robinson joins the cast as James Reiss, King Charles' press secretary. Robinson has been in over 100 productions at PTC and was most recently seen at PTC in The Count of Monte Cristo as Msr. Morrel. His numerous other theatrical credits include many seasons at the Utah Shakespeare Festival and work with the Salt Lake Acting Company.

Prime Minister Tristan Evans is played by Larry Bull, whose credits include The Coast of Utopia on Broadway, work off-Broadway and productions in regional theatres across the country. He was seen at Utah Shakespeare Festival in a number of shows, including Much Ado About Nothing, Richard II, King Lear, Amadeus and others.

J. Todd Adams plays Mark Stevens, Leader of the Opposition within Parliament, and returns to PTC after playing Revered John Hale in The Crucible. He has also participated in three seasons at the Utah Shakespeare Festival, where he was seen in The Three Musketeers, Henry V, Much Ado About Nothing and Sherlock Holmes.

Actors BEN ABBOTT, TYSON BAKER, ROGER DUNBAR, SUSANNA FLORENCE, ISABELLA REEDER, SARAH SHIPPOBOTHAM, BAILEY WALKER and BENJAMIN YOUNG complete the cast.

Playwright Mike Bartlett is currently the associate playwright at Paines Plough in London and has experience in radio and directing as well as writing. His theatre credits include Love, Love, Love, 12, Decade, Earthquakes in London, Cock, Contractions, Artefacts and My Child. Before King Charles III won the 2015 Tony Award for Best Play, Bartlett's Love, Love, Love won Best New Play in the 2011 Theatre Awards UK, and his play c*ckwon an Olivier Award in 2010 for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre.

David Ivers returns to PTC as guest director, having directed One Man, Two Guvnors in our 2014-2015 season. He is one of two artistic directors of the Utah Shakespeare Festival, where he has acted and directed in nearly 50 productions over the course of 20 seasons. He has also directed productions at theatres such as the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, The Guthrie, Alabama Shakespeare Festival and Berkeley Repertory Theatre. He holds a B.F.A. from Southern Oregon University and an M.F.A. from the University of Minnesota.

GARY M. ENGLISH returns to PTC as scenic designer. The founding artistic director of Connecticut Repertory Theatre, he has served as an artistic director and department head in dramatic arts for 15 years. His PTC credits include One Man, Two Guvnors, The Light at the Piazza and The Ladies Man. His other credits include off-Broadway productions, television and over 70 productions at regional theatres across the country.

Music for this production is composed by Gregg Coffin, who has composed, directed, arranged and orchestrated music for over a 100 productions throughout the United States, Canada, China and South Korea. Previously at PTC, he worked on One Man, Two Guvnors. Some of his other credits include work at Oregon Shakespeare Festival, DCPA Theatre Company and Utah Shakespeare Festival.

Costume designer Alex Jaeger is returning to PTC as well, having designed One Man, Two Guvnors. He has designed for Two Sisters and a Piano off-Broadway, the tour of Wiesenthal and in regional theatres including Center Theatre Group, Utah Shakespeare Festival, A.C.T. San Francisco, Cleveland Playhouse, Oregon Shakespeare Festival and many more.

Lighting design is by guest designer David Neville. He has designed lighting for over 300 productions at regional theatres across the country, including Portland Center Stage, Arkansas Repertory Theatre and Music Theatre West, as well as for off-Broadway productions, National Tours and International Tours.

ADRIANNE MOORE, head of the theatre department at Utah State University, is the dialect coach. Her other PTC credits include Dracula, My Fair Lady, The Heiress and Pride and Prejudice, and she has also worked extensively with Utah theatres like the Utah Shakespeare Festival and Salt Lake Acting Company.
