Grammy and Latin Grammy award winner Andy Garcia unleashes "exemplary classic Cuban Jazz and Mambo" (JazzTimes.com) alongside his sizzling band the CineSon All Stars on Saturday, August 27. The percussionist and pianist who also happens to be an Oscar, Golden Globe and Emmy-nominated actor - leads an evening of combustible, dance-inspiring music at Deer Valley Resort's Snow Park Outdoor Amphitheater. The St. Regis Big Stars, Bright Nights concert starts at 7 p.m.; gates open at 5:30 p.m.For tickets and information: 435-655-3114 or www.BigStarsBrightNightsConcerts.org.
When Garcia takes to the stage alongside his accomplished big band, the infectious music takes hold. As one San Francisco Chroniclereviewer noted, audiences won't be untethered without demanding an encore, "'Una Mas" (One More) quickly became the collective mantra with Garcia beaming his broad, contagious smile over the standing crowd..."
The multi-talented, Cuban-born producer and performer has collaborated extensively with the likes of legendary Afro Cuban bassist Cachao and trumpeter Arturo Sandoval. Over the past two decades, Garcia has worked onstage and in-studio alongside these greats, helping to create Grammy-winning albums and critically acclaimed documentaries in the process. In between high profile acting/directing/musical score writing gigs ("The Untouchables," "The Godfather: Part III," "Ocean's Eleven" and "The Lost City"...), Garcia and the CineSon All Stars - some of whom are borrowed from members of Cachao's original band - have performed in venues and festivals around the world. The group has delivered its Cuban big band rhythms to acclaimed concert halls, ranging from Radio City Music Hall and the Greek Theatre to Hollywood Bowl and a special performance for the Latin Recording Academy Grammy Acoustic Sessions. Garcia was recently presented with the Latin Songwriters Hall of Fame's La Musa Living Legend Award.
"This band delivers the kind of music that seeps into your soul and a rhythm that sets those hips into an instant sway," says PCI executive director Teri Orr. "I doubt if anyone in the audience will be able to resist dancing along to this culturally rich and artistically profound collection of all-star musicians."
