Morag Shepherd has been appointed the role of Producer in the executive leadership at SACKERSON, a theatre company known for bringing new work to unconventional spaces for bold audiences in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She joins founding producers Alex Ungerman and Dave Mortensen in that role. The organization is led by three producers and includes an ensemble of resident artists (Shawn Francis Saunders, McKenzie Steele Foster, Daniel Whiting) and visiting artists from the surrounding area.
Sackerson brings "consistently outstanding productions of original plays and theatrical works that are rarely presented in the Intermountain West region" (Les Roka, The Utah Review, December 2017). In three short years the company has debuted twelve productions including nine world premieres, and three regional premieres. Their work has been presented at the Great Salt Lake Fringe Festival, San Diego International Fringe Festival, and Tucson Fringe Festival.
"From the beginning of Sackerson we knew we wanted to focus on writing, directing, and the audience member's role in the theatrical experience," writes co-founder Dave Mortensen. "Morag's creative vision is why we brought her on as resident playwright when we formed the company. Her work ethic and commitment to our mission these past few years made it impossible not to extend the role of partner producer this year."
In response to her new role Morag Shepherd writes: "I believe in the theatrical experiences that Sackerson strives to provide. I love that our audiences take chances on texts that require their participation. Everything we do is for our patrons and their experience, and I want to continue, with Sackerson, thinking about how we can include them to make meaning in this crazy and beautiful world."
