LOST IN YONKERS to Close Wasatch Theatre Company 28th Season
Neil Simon's Pulitzer Prize-winning play will be staged in Salt Lake City
Wasatch Theatre Company has announced its upcoming production of Lost in Yonkers, the Pulitzer Prize–winning play by Neil Simon. The drama will run from June 24th, 2026 through June 28th, 2026 at the Regent Street Black Box at the Eccles.
Set in 1942, Lost in Yonkers follows two Young Brothers, Jay and Arty, who are sent to live with their formidable grandmother in Yonkers, New York, while their father struggles to make ends meet. In this unfamiliar and often harsh environment, the boys encounter a cast of unforgettable characters, including their emotionally distant grandmother, their childlike Aunt Bella, and their small-time gangster Uncle Louie. As the boys navigate this new world, they begin to uncover family secrets and discover resilience, compassion, and the meaning of home. Blending humor with deeply emotional storytelling, Lost in Yonkers explores themes of family trauma, survival, and the enduring need for connection. The play won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1991 and remains one of Neil Simon's most celebrated works.
“This production invites audiences to reflect on how families shape us—both in the ways they nurture and the ways they challenge us,” said Hugh Hanson, director of the production. “At its heart, this is a story about finding humanity in difficult circumstances.”
Tickets on opening night are half-price as part of Wasatch Wednesday. The show runs for one weekend only at the Regent Street Black Box, where WTC is ending a three-year residency. This also marks the end of WTC's 28th season, which has also included productions of Before Oz, A Dozen Roses, a co-production with To the Moon Theatre Collective of Friendly Universe, and Just Another Day.
