Jane Austen Weekend at the Utah Shakespeare Festival Set for 8/15-17

In honor of the world premier of Sense and Sensibility at Utah Shakespeare Festival, the Jane Austen Society of North America (JASNA) is sponsoring a "Jane Austen Weekend" August 15-17. Attendees will enjoy all the Festival has to offer with backstage tours, literary seminars and attendance at Twelfth Night and Sense and Sensibility. The society will also host a special opening social, a Jane Austen Society Luncheon and lecture led by JASNA Utah chapter president, Aspen Anderson. Festivities begin on Friday, August 15 at 2 p.m. at The Pastry Pub with an opening lunch social. Lunch is followed by a lecture, "Jane Austen's World," by Aspen Anderson at the Cedar City Public Library at 4 p.m.
Saturday, August 16 will start off with an actor panel with the cast of Sense and Sensibility in the Festival's Seminar Grove at 11 a.m., the production of Twelfth Night at 2 p.m. and then dinner with the participants at 5:45 p.m. At 8 p.m. the participants will see Sense and Sensibility; Regency dress is encouraged.
Wrapping up the weekend on Sunday, August 17 is a closing social at Main Street Park at 11:30 a.m.
With Sense and Sensibility audiences will have the opportunity to go back in time to Regency England and witness the lives of the Dashwood sisters in this world premiere adaptation created for the Festival by J.R. Sullivan and Joseph Hanreddy. Sullivan and Hanreddy also wrote Pride and Prejudice, which appeared at the Festival to great acclaim in 2010.
Sense and Sensibility tells a touching and romantic story of the Dashwood sisters who are both looking for true love, but in different ways. Elinor is about using her rational head, while
Marianne continually follows her heart, the "sense" and "sensibility" of the title. This adaptation faithfully follows the plot and themes of Jane Austin's novel.
Tickets are on sale for the Festival's 53rd season, which runs through October 18, 2014. The eight-play season includes Sense and Sensibility, as well as Shakespeare's Measure for Measure, The Comedy of Errors, Henry IV Part One, and Twelfth Night, Stephen Sondheim's Into the Woods, Steven Dietz's adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure, and Boeing Boeing by Marc Camoletti.
