Acclaimed dance company, MOMIX, performs its iconic program, "Opus Cactus," on December 16.

Park City Institute presents this return engagement as part of the 20th Anniversary Main Stage Season at the George S. and Dolores Doré Eccles Center for The Performing Arts.

"Founder-director Moses Pendleton takes inspiration from the beauty of the human form, combined with nature. It's more than dance-it's alchemy," said Park City Institute Executive Director Teri Orr. "We are thrilled to welcome them back to our stage during this celebratory 20th Anniversary season."

Founded in 1980, Moses Pendleton's MOMIX is renowned for combining muscularly sculpted dancers with unique costumes and props, and artfully created lighting effects-set against a score that ranges from Vivaldi, to New Age, to birdsong. Pendleton invites the audience to dip into the "stream of unconsciousness," as they take in the optical confusion.

Praised by critics for its "visual splendor and theatrical magic," (Wall Street Journal) and its "fun and excitement," (New York Times), "Opus Cactus" takes its inspiration from the American Southwest.

"Opus Cactus is a program everyone can enjoy," adds Orr. "As the audience watches bodies transform from lizards to plant life and back again, children are inspired and captivated by the magical costumes; their parents see subtle imagery. Couples may be swept up by romantic duets. Friends may leave the theater debating the mysteries of the show."

Tickets to MOMIX, "Opus Cactus" are available at parkcityinstitute.org, or by calling the box office. Individual tickets range from $29 to $79. Discounts are available for children (16 and under), seniors, and Summit County students (K-12). Call the Box Office at 435-655-3114 for more information. The Box Office is located within the Eccles Center (1750 Kearns Boulevard, Park City.) Box Office hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday; the Box Office is open from noon through show time, on the day of a performance.
