The stars of EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL at V Theater inside Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino were proud to be a part of this past weekend's Salt Lake City Comic Con, the largest first-year comic convention in the world.
With over 90,000 fans attending the 3 day event, SLC was the center of all-things comics and comics-related. It has been officially recognized as the largest first-year convention ever in regards to attendance. It was so large, in fact, that on Saturday the con itself was shut down for over 2 hours as the building had reached capacity.
EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL was one of the first guests to be invited to the convention, and indeed their involvement was held as a special surprise for attendees until right before date of the convention itself.
Fans able to interact and get photos with the cast at the EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL booth, a popular destination spot that was large enough to view from the outside of the convention hall's main room, which by the end of the convention had become a meeting spot and landmark that many attendees used to navigate by.
On Friday the cast hosted a popular panel called "Pop Culture Undead". It was designed to go over the history of zombies in pop culture, ultimately focusing on EVIL DEAD. The room was crowded with a mix of fans who had already seen the show in Las Vegas, fans of the EVIL DEAD films, and fans of zombies. Many who were in the room stated it was the best panel of the convention.
On Saturday there was a "family-friendly" highlights performance of the show presented to Comic Con attendees. Lines started forming for the event over an hour before it was slated to begin, and was so well-received that afterwards the EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL booth was crowded for hours with fans waiting in line to take a pic with the cast.
"This convention is one for the history books," said Sirc Michaels, producer of EVIL DEAD THE MUSICAL. "This is the largest first-year convention, ever, and the first convention of its type in Salt Lake City. To say we are proud to be a part of it is an understatement."
Cast members in attendance included Ben Stobber who plays Ash Williams, Lorie Palkow who plays Cheryl Williams, Lynnae Meyers who plays Ash's girlfriend Linda, and Kolton Rostron who plays Faek Shemp, Scotty, and Ed. Sirc Michaels was also on-hand to keep things lively at the celebration.
