Where does a hillbilly go when he strikes it rich? To Beverly Hills, of course! America's most famous ZIP code gets some nutty new residents in the Desert Star Playhouse production "Beverly Hillbillies 90210: You Might Be A Redneck If..." This hilarious musical parody for the whole family opens March 3rd.
Directed by
Scott Holman, "Beverly Hillbillies 90210" is a toe-tappin', knee-slappin,' rootin' tootin' comic adventure. After mountain man Jeb Clam discovers that Granny's moonshine is the perfect solution to the oil shortage, Jeb and his clan set off for California to enjoy the Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous. It doesn't take long for oil tycoon JR Rottenfeller to find out about his new neighbors and their alternative fuel source. Rottenfeller hatches a plan to get his hands on Granny's secret formula. He blackmails his spoiled daughter, Shannon, into romancing Jed's bonehead nephew, JT. But not everyone in the Rottenfeller family is willing to go along with his evil plan, and it turns into the Family Feud to end all family feuds. It's a classic comedy of colliding cultures that's sure to have you cheering for the good guys and booing the villain.
Written by Beth Bruner and adapted by Holman, "Beverly Hillbillies 90210" runs from March 3 thru April 23, 2011. The evening also includes one of Desert Star's signature musical olios following the show. The "Island Paradise" olio features island-inspired songs mixed with more of Desert Star's signature comedy.
