Desert Star Playhouse, the one-of-a-kind family theatre that has built its reputation on hilarious musical parodies, has announced its 2011 season of shows. The line-up includes parodies of beloved Hollywood movies, well-known characters in funny new shows, and the ultimate dumb blonde-only this time she's brunette. Fans of Desert Star will be glad to hear the theatre has added a 7th show in 2011. Season tickets go on sale June 8 for current season ticket holders and June 22 to the general public.
Desert Star is unique in that it produces only original scripts. Artistic Director
Scott Holman, who is also an audience favorite onstage, explained how the titles for next season were selected:
Back From The Future: What Happens in 1985 Stays In 1985 (January 6 - February 26, 2011) Holman: "The original movie was set in 1985. Hard to believe! So we thought it would be fun to send the hero back to 1985 and send up everything 80's, Desert Star-style."
Beverly Hillbillies 90210: You Might Be A Redneck If... (March 3 - April 23, 2011) Holman: "It's got some hysterical moments that will have the audience roaring with laughter. Many fans were disappointed when this show was bumped from the 2010 schedule, so we're doing it next year. Come enjoy Desert Star's version of this hilarious classic and discover if you're secretly a redneck."
Sheer-Luck Holmes: Clueless Again! (April 28 - June 11, 2011) Holman: "The recent movie reminded everyone what a great character Sherlock Holmes is. But wait until you see the famous detective after Desert Star puts its spin on him. Laughs galore? Elementary!"
Goldilocks Capone & The 3 Amigos (June 16 - August 6, 2011) Holman: ‘The Three Amigos' is a classic comedy, but our great audience chose to add in Goldilocks as an all grown-up, unexpected and dastardly villain! This will no doubt be our craziest comedy of the year. An audience choice!"
HUNK-cules: I'm Too Sexy For My Toga (August 11 - September 24, 2011) Holman: "This was inspired by ‘Clash of the Titans.' But since we can't do computerized special effects on stage, we've replaced them with comedy that will have the special effect of working our patrons' abs into a six-pack. And yes, we'll have a HUNKY guy muscling his way into the hearts of the ladies."
Legally Brunette: Not All Dumbs Are Blonde (September 28 - November 12, 2011) Holman: "This is the winner of our audience choice of shows they'd most like to see again. Ironically, after we did our very funny musical version, the movie was turned into a Broadway musical. Coincidence? I think not."
It's a Wonderful Life: Winging In the Holidays (November 17 - December 31, 2001) Holman: "This won't be the movie everybody's seen year after year. It's a Christmas stocking stuffed full of Desert Star comedy, wacky villains, and great stage effects. Lots of Christmas spirit too!"
Season Tickets for 2011 may be purchased online at

Desert Star has added an additional seventh show to its 2011 season. "We got down to doing a five-show season for a few years, but our guests have told us they don't like waiting so long between shows. So we're returning the popular seven-show format of years gone by," said Holman.
