Desert News reported yesterday that CenterPoint Legacy Theatre director and actor Scott Montgomery passed away in his sleep Monday night following a tonsillectomy and deviated septum operation. An exact cause of death has not been revealed at this time.
Holly Reid, assistant director of development at CenterPoint Legacy Theatre, told Desert News that, "I think his death means a great loss because he cared so much about what he put on the stage. He loved people and he loved the art, and so that was a perfect fit for him, and he was able to touch innumerable lives."
Montgomery's CenterPoint Legacy Theatre credits include "Aida," "The Scarlet Pimpernel," "West Side Story," "Mary Poppins," "Jekyll and Hyde," "The Addams Family," and "A Tale of Two Cities."
Sarah Jane Watts, who worked with Montgomery in multiple shows, spoke very highly of him, saying "He never did things halfway. He always loved with his whole heart. He always sought for perfection in his shows. He was about ... making sure that we knew how important the story that we were telling was and making sure that the audience walked away feeling the message of what we were doing and wanting to change because of it."
A GoFundMe campaign has been created to support the family, with all proceeds going to Montgomery's wife, Melanie. A memorial service is set for this Saturday, November 11.
