Utah Repertory Theater Company will stage the Pulitzer Prize-winning drama "Rabbit Hole" May 8-24 at Midvale Main St. Theatre.
"We have assembled an excellent and thoughtful cast, dedicated to telling a very important story," said Rusty Bringhurst, who plays the lead role of Howie in "Rabbit Hole. "If you have lost someone, or know someone who has gone through loss, this is an excellent portrayal of the grieving process. It's a touching and brutal story and certainly an excellent way to spend your evening."
Ali Lente, who plays the lead role of Becca, said "Rabbit Hole" is "a beautiful, human story of connection and disconnection. It is unexpectedly healing. It is hard to heal alone, without the support of those we love, and this play certainly has a lot of love driving it forward. Each character has his own story to tell about grief and the process of life."
While Utah Rep is the resident theater company of the Sugar Space Warehouse Theater in the River District of Salt Lake City, this production of "Rabbit Hole" will be staged at the Midvale Main St. Theatre.
"Midvale Main St. Theatre is happy to announce that we have extended an invitation to Utah Rep to utilize our stage for the company's upcoming production of 'Rabbit Hole,'" said Tammy Ross, MMST owner/director. "Utah Rep's thought-provoking, high-quality shows are exactly what we love to see on our stage, and we are excited to welcome the 'Rabbit Hole' creative team."
"Tammy Ross has been a long-time supporter of Utah Rep," said Johnny Hebda, Utah Rep artistic director. "When she invited us to stage 'Rabbit Hole' at her Midvale Main St. Theatre, we remembered how successful our productions of 'Carousel,' 'i love you because' and 'What the Bellhop Saw' were when the Murray Theater was our home theater. Add in the excellent sound and lighting and staging aspects of the theater, and Midvale Main St. Theatre is a great venue to perform 'Rabbit Hole.'"
Along with the 2007 Pulitzer Prize for Drama Award, "Rabbit Hole" was nominated for several Tony Awards, including Best Play. Cynthia Nixon won the 2006 Tony Award for Best Actress for her performance in "Rabbit Hole." A play that includes both drama and comedy, "Rabbit Hole" deals with the ways family members survive a major loss.
"Rabbit Hole" is Utah Rep's second production in its third five-show season.
