What did three guys do in four minutes that got them barred from show-biz for life? Find out at TRIPLE ESPRESSO, a highly caffeinated comedy coming to Sacramento's Cosmopolitan Cabaret for a limited 8-week engagement, opening June 1 and running through July 22. TRIPLE ESPRESSO is part improv, part musical, and all comedy, with critics comparing it to "an evening with the Marx Brothers." After fourteen years, and more than 8,500 performances in 45 cities worldwide, TRIPLE ESPRESSO is set to thrill Sacramento with its sky-high energy, original songs, parody send-ups and vaudeville-style ensemble.
Tickets for TRIPLE ESPRESSO are available now through the Wells Fargo Pavilion Box Office at 1419 H Street, by calling (916) 557-1999, or online at Tickets.com. Single tickets start at $20 for all performances. Special preview performances take place on May 30 and 31. Matinee performances are Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 2 p.m. Evening performances are Wednesdays and Thursdays at 7 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m.
In the three-man play, set in the Triple Espresso Coffeehouse, the once-promising comedy team of "Maxwell, Butternut and Bean" is back for a reluctant celebration of their ill-fated "big break." Audiences will laugh along with the group's comically disastrous performances at everything from club luncheons to rodeos – all leading up to the moment that catapulted the trio right out of the spotlight, a tragically hilarious appearance on The Mike Douglas Show. Butternut is a musician, a vulnerable soul with a lounge lizard smile; Maxwell is an uncertain magician with an attitude; and Bean is an irrepressible, all-over-the-map entertainer with big dreams. The laughter is infectious and the comedy appeals to everyone.
TRIPLE ESPRESSO ran for 12 straight years in Minneapolis and over 10 years in San Diego, and has enjoyed subsequent returns to both cities, as well as successful runs in Chicago, Seattle, Phoenix, Atlanta, Milwaukee, Cincinnati, Detroit, London, Dublin, Berlin, Munich and many other cities. The show that began humbly around a coffee table in a Twin Cities cafe has become a critical and box office hit all over the world, entertaining more than 1.7 million people over the years.
Critics rave about TRIPLE ESPRESSO: The Los Angeles Times calls it "a triple dose of inspired craziness…fabulous…irresistible!" "TRIPLE ESPRESSO will leave you chuckling all the way home," raves the Chicago Sun-Times, while the Minneapolis Star-Tribune declares the production to be "…the essence of comedy." And the Seattle Post-Intelligencer calls the show "Amazing! Astounding! Hilarious!"
