PLAYWRIGHTS COLLABORATIVE AT BIG IDEA:

PLAYWRIGHTS COLLABORATIVE MEETINGS AT THE BIG IDEA THEATRE:

All activities are at the Big Idea Theatre, 1616 Del Paso Blvd (in the same complex as Fran's Cafe and the Supper Club, across Del Paso and a little east of KFC).
Workshops are monthly on Sundays at 7:00 PM on dates to be announced. There are no dues, fees or other charges for participating.
Staged readings may be scheduled occasionally by playwrights.

At the Sunday, March 14, workshop, Jim Moose's "The
Tragedy of President George II" will be read and discussed. If William Shakespeare were
to have written about American politics, the result might have been "The Tragedy
of President George II." Playwright Jim Moose has adapted concepts and speeches
from a number of Shakespeare's plays (notably the "Histories") to create this
look at US politics from Bush I to Bush II. Because the full length play is
quite long, the reading will consist of selected scenes which accurately reflect
the total work.

The following workshop will be on April 18.
"The Playwrights Collaborative is an organization of writers, actors, directors and others interested in the theater, working together to promote the development and production of new plays in Sacramento and elsewhere. Through a cooperative process of peer review, Playwrights Collaborative assists in making plays ready for production and helps in finding suitable venues where shows might be performed."

WORKSHOPS: At each workshop, original plays by local writers are read and discussed as are ways to promote deserving works for production. Several theaters have expressed an interest in producing one new original play per year and Playwrights Collaborative has encouraged similar interest by other theatres in the area. There will also be occasional speakers with expertise in various aspects of theater.

STAGED READINGS: Playwrights participating in the once-a-month Sunday workshops will be scheduling occasional "staged readings" of plays that have been developed sufficiently to be ready for production. A staged reading is a play production with the actors holding scripts.

Playwrights Collaborative invites interested writers and actors to attend and take part in the workshop readings which can lead to invitational staged readings of new works. The group actively promotes new plays to prospective producers. Following each reading, comments and suggestions for improvement will be solicited from all who are present.

For further information or if you have a play you would like workshopped, contact Gary Agid, chairman, at gary@agid.com (916-383-9267)

NEW WORKS FORUM AT THISTLE DEW

Calling all Playwrights and wanna-bees! Do you have a play you'd like critiqued?
The workshop meets every Monday evening at 7:00.

On Monday nights, jump into the critique fray or listen quietly....until your passions rise and you feel compelled to join the mêlée. (Overheard before a reading: "I came just to listen, honestly, I've never critiqued a play before, but I just had to say something about Act II, Scene Three ....").
