SARTA has announced auditions for its upcoming production of Ken Ludwig's LEADING LADIES. Auditions will be held April 15 at 7 pm at the Sutter Street Theatre, 717 Sutter Street, Folsom, Calif.
Bring a headshot and resume. Auditions will be cold readings from the script. The show will run June 1 - July 8, 2012. Rehearsals to be arranged. Warren Harrison directs.
This is a high energy comic farce. Ages of the characters are approximate and will depend on the overall casting. Actors will be considered, even if they are not the described ages, as long as they can play those ages. There is some minor dancing in the second act. Some swordplay with Jack and Leo in the first act.
Cast requirements for each role follow.
Leo - Age range mid 20's - mid 40's - down and out Shakespearean actor. Must be able to perform farcical comedy. Lots of energy. Will dress in drag for part of show.
Jack - same requirements as for Leo
Meg - Ingénue, with an air of maturity - age range mid 20's to late 30's. Sweet, but intelligent.
Audrey - Comedic ingénue - must have a good sense of comic timing. Naïve, but goodhearted. Age range late teens to mid/late 20's. Special skills - must be able to roller skate (or willing to learn)
Florence - Older woman - undetermined age, on verge of passing on (or at least that's what people think). Crabby, but humorous and headstrong.
Doc - Father of Butch - age range 40's to mid-60's - leader of the local Moose Lodge and antagonist for Florence.
Butch - Doc's Son. Must be able to pair with Audrey. Rather dim-witted. Late teens to mid/late 20's
Duncan - local minister, engaged to Meg. Stuffy. A realist. Age 30's to mid 50's
