Off Broadway producer, popular comedienne, actor and director Kibibi Dillon died Tuesday, December 27th as the result of a fatal car crash in Berkeley, CA.
Kibibi Dillon founded LAUNCH Worldwide with Tamilla Woodard and Nyakya Brown which produced many Off Broadway productions for unique artists including Sherry Boone (Ragtime, Jelly’s Last Jam) in Superstar Artist Show (Zipper Theater) LeeAnet Noble (Stomp, Drumstruck) in KickN2theBeat (Zipper Theater) Cornelius Smith Jr. (All My Children) in Frayed (Triad Stage) and Queen GodIs (HBO Def Poetry) in Birth of Power U (Triad Theater).
As a performer and comedienne, Kibibi Dillon performed on many stages from CA to NY including such venues as the NY Comedy Club and the Bowery Poetry Club. She was a featured performer with the Adults Playground Improv Troupe, Sketch Crew and Saturday Night Re-written at Juvie Hall (NYC). In the past year she returned to California working on tour as a stand up comedienne opening for such acts as Aries Spears (Mad TV).
Ms.Dillon graduated from Howard University where she was the president of The Howard Players and directed such productions as The Blackface Awards honoring Debbie Allen. Some of her favorite acting rolls included: Greta in Sans-Culottes in the Promise Land by Kirsten Greenidge, First Witch in Macbeth by William Shakespeare and May Belle in Before It Hits Home by Sheryl West. Kibibi Dillon is survived by her loving mother, many brothers and sisters, tons of dear friends and thousands of fans. On his blog site playwright James Carter quotes her as being a “fantastically funny and loving woman.”
Kibibi Dillons memorial service will be held on Saturday January 7th at 1pm at Antioch Progressive Baptist Church, 7650 Amherst Street, Sacramento, CA 95832.
