The Capitol Steps have arrived, direct from Washington, D.C., to kick off their 2013 fall comedy tour just as the federal government has shut down over the budget impasse. To soften the blow for Sacramento region government workers caught in the middle, the Harris Center for the Arts at Folsom Lake College is offering two free tickets to any furloughed federal employee for the The Capitol Steps performance on Wednesday night, October 2nd, at the Center. Workers can call the Harris Center ticket office at (916) 608-6888 to reserve their seats.
Formed by congressional staffers who set out to satirize the very people and places that employed them, The Capitol Steps have always had the inside track on the inner workings of Washington, D.C. Although not all of the current members of the Steps are former Capitol Hill staffers, taken together the performers have worked in a total of eighteen Congressional offices and represent 62 years of collective House and Senate staff experience. Some have worked for Democrats, some for Republicans, and others for politicians who "firmly straddle the fence." Performers for this tour of The Capitol Steps are Mike Thornton, Morgan Duncan, Mike Tilford, Delores King Williams, Ann Margaret Schmitt, with pianist Howard Breitbart.
"Laughter is sometimes the best remedy for an otherwise grim situation, and we felt this would be a nice way to lift the people's spirits who are being most directly impacted by the current government shutdown," notEd Harris Center Executive Director Dave Pier in discussing the giveaway for federal employees idled by the current situation.
The Capitol Steps will perform on Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 7:30 pm. Tickets for the general public are $25-$35; Premium $45; Students with ID $12 (Parterre and Balcony). Tickets are available online at www.harriscenter.net or from Harris Center Ticket Office at916-608-6888 from 10 am to 6 pm, Monday through Saturday, and two hours before show time. Parking is included in the price of the ticket. Harris Center is located on the west side of Folsom Lake College campus in Folsom, CA, facing East Bidwell Street.
