New Play Festival Announced At Capital Stage!  Image

Capital Stage presents its annual new play festival PLAYWRIGHTS' REVOLUTION. Capital Stage created PLAYWRIGHTS' REVOLUTION to contribute to the development of new plays and playwrights. Each year just a handful of plays are carefully selected from hundreds of submissions and presented as staged readings for the public by Capital Stage artists. Tickets are FREE. Reservations are suggested. Reservations can be made over the phone at 916-995-5464, in person at 2215 J Street, or online at capstage.org/cap-events/playwrights-revolution.

On the day of a high school shooting drill Leeza, Andrea, Morgan, and Chris all encounter each other in a little-used school bathroom. Some of them are still coping with a friend's suicide. Leeza is hoping to be nominated for a poetry prize. Someone finds a gun in Ms. Stuben's classroom. Just another day for modern high schoolers... or is it?

THE SWEET SPOT by Alice Jankell

Wednesday, July 24 at 7:00 pm at Capital Stage

Vita and Jerry have to face "someday" sooner than they expected when a spot opens up for them in a retirement community. Memories from their life together play out in echoes as they struggle with the idea of leaving the only home they've ever lived in together and all of its memories (and wait impatiently for their great-grandchild to be born).

MEA'S UNIQUE GARAGE SALE by Joël Doty

Thursday, July 25 at 7:00 pm at Capital Stage

Mea holds a garage sale to fund her move to Texas with her online friend, Endgame. As she sets out and describes to the audience her various belongings, Mea's experiences with anxiety, ADHD and Endgame are laid bare to await their fate. Mea's Unique Garage Sale is a quiet yet powerful transaction between artist, audience and perceptions of mental health in our society today.

BASEMENT DEMONS AND TRAILER SAINTS

Maria, Dirt, Dean, Ella, and Kevin all try to figure out their place in this mad mad world. Maria is catfished and kidnapped by a demon. Ella discovers she has empathic powers. Dirt leads the charge to save her dumb sister. Dean hosts a YouTube live channel about religious relics. Kevin is non-binary and into death metal. Together this awkward band of misfits just might save us all.
