The nine-time Tony Award®-winning singular sensation A Chorus Line, conceived by Michael Bennett and featuring music by Marvin Hamlisch, kicks off the 2014 Music Circus season at the Wells Fargo Pavilion, the 64th season for the venerable Sacramento institution. Performances are tonight, June 24 - 29.
This emotional behind-the-scenes look at the Broadway world is a celebration of what it means to be a professional dancer, fervently pursuing the passion to perform onstage, experiencing the triumph of dreams achieved and the tragedy of dreams unrealized. With the songs "What I Did for Love," "I Hope I Get It," and the show-stopping "One," The New York Times calls A Chorus Line, "Heaven on Broadway. So fresh that you have to stop to catch your breath!" The Music Circus cast features Broadway veterans and stars of screen and stage, actors who have performed in A Chorus Line on Broadway and on tour, and Sacramento natives whose successful careers began at Music Circus.

In a Sacramento 'homecoming' of sorts, the role of Cassie will be played by Sacramento native
Kate Levering, an award winning Broadway star (42nd Street, Thou Shalt Not, The Music Man) who has performed in more than 15 Music Circus productions and who is currently starring in Lifetime's hit TV series "Drop Dead Diva." Sheila will be played by another Sacramento native and Broadway veteran,
Jenifer Foote, whose Broadway credits include A Chorus Line, Annie Get Your Gun, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and Rock of Ages, in addition to nearly 20 Music Circus productions. Another Sacramento area native,
Courtney Iventosch, who appeared in the national tour of Wicked, including the 2012 run at Sacramento Community Center Theater, will play Lois.
Katie Boren, who played on Broadway in Lysistrata Jones, and in both the Broadway and touring productions of ...Spelling Bee, will play Connie. Paul will be played by
Xavier Cano, who has appeared in Grease on Broadway, and Off-Broadway in Giant, The Capeman and Rent, among others. Playing Bobby will be
Stephen Carrasco, who has appeared on Broadway in Kinky Boots,Ghost,
Billy Elliot and
Irving Berlin's White Christmas. Richie will be played by
Roger Ellis, whose regional credits include Hairspray, Aladdin, 42nd Street and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Adam Fleming, whose Broadway credits include Wicked, Hairspray and bare: A Pop Opera, will play Al. Judy will be played by
Julia Freyer, who appeared in the national tour of A Chorus Line and has extensive regional theatre experience.
Juliane Godfrey, whose regional credits include A Chorus Line, The Music Man, Oliver! and A Wonderful Life, will play Bebe.
Katie Huff, just back from the national tour of Evita, will play Kristine. Playing Don will be
Drew Humphrey, whose Broadway and touring credits include
Irving Berlin's White Christmas, Of Thee I Sing and 42nd Street. Mark will be played by
Cory Lingner, whose regional credits include Mary Poppins, Hairspray, 42nd Street and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.
Allison Blair McDowell, who appeared in the national tour of La Cage Aux Folles, will play Val. Laura will be played by
Kathryn Mowat Murphy, who has starred in the Broadway tours of A Chorus Line, Sweet Charity, Chicago and Fosse.
Playing Zach is
Eric Sciotto, who has played multiple roles in A Chorus Line on Broadway and on tour, and whose other Broadway credits include Annie Get Your Gun, Aida, Sweet Smell of Success and 42nd Street.
Chelsea Morgan Stock, whose Broadway credits include The Little Mermaid, Baby It's You! and Sister Act, will play Maggie. Playing Mike will be
Nick Varricchio, who was in the national tour of A Chorus Line. Selina Michelle Varastigui, who has appeared in the national tour of A Chorus Line, as well as in regional theatre productions including
Irving Berlin's White Christmas and Evita, will play Diana. Greg will be played by Leigh Wakeford, who has extensive regional theatre experience and appeared in the touring productions of The Drowsy Chaperone and Chicago.
Kim Arnett, who appeared in the national tours of Peter Pan and Mamma Mia!, returns for her seventh Music Circus season to play Tricia. Jake DuPree, who danced with two acclaimed contemporary dance companies in New York City, will play Butch. Jordan Grubb, who performed in the national tour of Mary Poppins and has extensive regional theatre experience, will play Frank.
Matthew J. Kilgore, who has appeared in a number of Music Circus productions, on Broadway in
Irving Berlin's White Christmas, and in a number of national tours, will play Tom. Returning for her fifth Music Circus season to play the role of Vicki is
Lisa Rohinsky, who has appeared on Broadway in Gypsy and in the national tours of
Irving Berlin's White Christmas and Hello, Dolly!Music Circus veteran
John B. Williford, who has appeared in the national tours of Jesus Christ Superstar, Peter Pan, Camelot and Starlight Express, will play Roy.
The creative team for A Chorus Line includes three Music Circus veterans. The Director is
Stafford Arima, who has directed a number of Music Circus productions, including last season's acclaimed production of The King and I. The Choreographer is
Randy Slovacek, returning to Music Circus after choreographing last season's acclaimed production of Chicago. The
Music Director is
Valerie Gebert, who was last at Music Circus in 2004, when she was Musical Director for The Fantasticks.
