Broadway's big fat musical comedy hit HAIRSPRAY, celebrating soc-hops and teen love in early 1960's Baltimore, makes its Sacramento community theatre premier at the 24th Street Theatre. Runaway Stage Productions brings this award-winning show to life January 7-30.

This fantastically fun musical, winner of eight 2003 Tony Awards including Best Musical, celebrated over 6 record-breaking years during its Broadway run.

It's 1962 - the ‘50s are out and change is in the air. Baltimore's Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and an even bigger heart, has only one passion - to dance. She wins a spot on the local TV dance Program, "The Corny Collins Show" and is transformed from outsider to irresistible teen celebrity. But can a plus-size trendsetter in dance and fashion vanquish the program's reigning princess, win the heart of heartthrob Link Larkin, and integrate a television show without denting her ‘do'? Only in HAIRSPRAY! Welcome to the 60's!

Multiple Elly Award winning Producer and Director Bob Baxter teams up again with Elly Award winning Choreographer Darryl Strohl, Musical Director Christopher Cook and Vocal Director Deann Golz to stage thiswonderfully fun and energetic Musical.

Runaway Stage Productions (RSP) began serving the region's theatre community in 1997 at the Eagle Theater in Old Sacramento and now performs at the 24th Street Theater at the Sierra 2 Center. It is the only Community Theatre Company in the greater Sacramento Area that is priveleged to have an 18 piece Resident Orchestra dedicated to providing "live" music during performances. The company stages six Broadway style productions each season, and six original Storybook Children's Theater shows, which are tailored to younger audiences. Runaway Stage Productions also offers education and enrichment of all audiences through its Youth Musical Theatre Workshops which introduce school age children to the theatrical experience. RSP provides a new learning opportunity through the "Broadway Kids" series, which introduces children between the ages of five to nine to the stage in a fun and nurturing environment.
