The unchecked growth of America's security/surveillance/detention complex is taken to its worst possible conclusion, in this hilarious dark comedy. In the not too distant future, the U.S. government is torn asunder by a military coup and the flag-waving goons behind it begin rounding up anyone who might be a threat to the regime. The only hope for the country is Carlton, a State Department employee and Tanya, the most unlikely political thriller heroine you've ever encountered.

Jason Wells's first play, MEN OF TORTUGA, had a critically-acclaimed debut at Steppenwolf Theatre's First Look Repertory of New Work, went on to a successful run at the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, and returned to Chicago for a production at Profiles Theatre. It has also received productions at Apollinaire Theatre Company in Massachusetts; Furious Theatre Company in Pasadena; Purple HeArt Theatre in Dublin, Ireland; and Street Corner Arts in Austin. Jason's second play, PERFECT MENDACITY, was a commission from Manhattan Theatre Club and the Sloan Foundation. Like MEN OF TORTUGA it debuted at Steppenwolf and went on to its official world premiere at the Asolo. In 2010, it was a finalist for the American Theatre Critics Association's Steinberg/New Play Award, and won the ATCA M. Elizabeth Osborn Award. THE NORTH PLAN debuted at Steppenwolf's First Look in 2010, and had its official world premiere at Portland Center Stage in Portland, Oregon in 2011.

Jason is also an actor with numerous TV, film, and stage credits.

Capital Stage co-founder and associate artist, Peter Mohrmann (IN THE NEXT ROOM OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY, OR,) directs this Sacramento premiere which features Katie Rubin as the incarcerated Tanya Shepke (IN THE NEXT ROOM OR THE VIBRATOR PLAY, HUNTER GATHERERS), Cassidy Brown as Carlton Berg (HUNTER GATHERERS), Harry Harris as local law enforcement Chief Swenson (DIRTY STORY, IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE), Andrew Perez as Bob Lee (ENRON), Alexandra Barthel as Shonda Cox and making his Capital Stage debut, popular Bay Area actor William Elsman as Department of Homeland Security heavy Dale Pittman. Capital Stage Company's mission is to be a dynamic leader in the evolution of the contemporary live theatre landscape in the Capital region and to passionately engage audiences in the art of live storytelling with bold, innovative plays performed by professional artists, in an intimate, up close setting. With a strong commitment to expanding the base of working artists in the greater Sacramento region, we shall develop a company of actors, directors, writers, designers, and technical staff who are dedicated to bringing bold, lively productions of contemporary and classic plays to our community.

While part of the mission of any theater company is to entertain its audience, we at Capital Stage feel strongly that the productions we mount address issues that are vital to understanding the society we live in and ourselves as human beings in that society. We address themes of power and manipulation in relationships between men and women, children and parents, and organizations and individuals. We invite audiences to question the ethics and meaning of art, the definitions of sanity and intelligence, and the line between exploitation and legitimate relationship. We believe that in a large and growing urban environment, where individuals and groups are constantly bombarded with information and demands for decisions, the need for thoughtful examination of our interactions in society has never been greater.
