Capital Stage Presents reasons to be pretty

Capital Stage begins the New Year with the Sacramento premiere of Neil LaBute's reasons to be pretty. Following LaBute's The Shape of Things and Fat Pig, reasons to be pretty is the final installment of a trilogy that focuses on modern day obsession with physical appearance. Having previously produced the first two plays, it is a perfect fit for Cap Stage to close out the trilogy with a production of this 2009 Tony Award nominee in Sacramento.

Performances for reasons to be pretty will begin with five previews on Friday, January 21 at 8pm; Saturday, January 22 at 7pm; Sunday, January 23 at 2pm; Wednesday, January 26 at 7pm and Thursday, January 27 at 8pm, and will open on Friday, January 28, 2011 at 8pm. Performances continue through February 20, 2011. Showtimes will be Wednesdays at 7pm, Thursdays and Fridays at 8pm, Saturdays at 7pm and Sundays at 2pm. Tickets range from $26-$33. Discount tickets are available as follows: Preview Tickets are $15; Student Rush Tickets are $12; Senior Sunday Matinee Tickets are $22; and Group Rates are available for parties of 12 or more. Greg really, truly adores his girlfriend, Steph. Unfortunately, he also thinks she has a few physical imperfections, and when he casually mentions them, all hell breaks loose. As their relationship crumbles, their friends are pulled into the fray, and all are forced to confront the power and dangers of beauty in contemporary America in this fiercely dark comedy that will have Cap Stage audiences talking.

The Playwright
Neil LaBute, playwright and provocateur, has established himself as one of the most important new voices in American Theater. His plays and movies, including The Shape of Things, Fat Pig and In the Company of Men, have earned acclaim all over the world. Neil LaBute's bristling comic drama, reasons to be pretty, puts the final ferocious cap on a trilogy of plays that began with The Shape of Things and Fat Pig.

The Production Members
The cast includes returning favorites Cole Alexander Smith (First Person Shooter) and Stephanie Altholz (Erratica: An Academic Farce). Joining them are Chad Deverman and Allison F. Rich in their Cap Stage debuts. Capital Stage Artistic Associate Janis Stevens (American Buffalo) will direct this Sacramento Premiere. The creative team will include Cap Stage Producing Director JoNathan Williams (scenic design), Rebecca Redmond (costume design) and Ron Madonia (lighting design).
