California Musical Theatre Artistic Director Glenn Casale was named Artist of the Year at the Arts & Business Council of Sacramento's 25th annual Prelude to the Season awards event, which took place Oct. 12 at the Woodlake Hotel in Sacramento. Casale was one of three nominees for Artist of the Year, a category that honors artists who have made a significant contribution to the cultural life of the Greater Sacramento Region.
Casale has been the resident director of Music Circus for 25 years and is now Artistic Director of California Musical Theatre. His thoughtful direction has raised the level of musical theatre in the region, and his artistic voice at California Musical Theatre has been a paramount influence in transforming Music Circus to one of the most respected theaters in the country. In addition to his work at California Musical Theatre, Casale is director of some of Disney Theatricals' European productions, as well as an award-winning director of other national tours. As a professor for the Music Circus theatre internship program, and a former professor of theatre at UNLV, Casale has had a profound impact on the professional careers of hundreds of young actors and directors.
"I'm honored to have received this award, and want to offer my sincere thanks to the Arts & Business Council. I'm proud to be a part of Sacramento's diverse and thriving arts community," Casale said. "I also want to thank my friends and colleagues at California Musical Theatre. Without Richard Lewis (Executive Producer), Scott Klier (Associate Producer) and the rest of the team, we would not be able to create such high quality productions, as we've done at Music Circus for 62 years. I look forward to many more years of bringing world class musical theatre to the Sacramento community through Music Circus and Broadway Sacramento, as well as offering a variety of theatre education programs through our California Musical Theatre Academy."
