They're blue for a reason. Although their out of this world look and behavior may suggest otherwise, the Blue Man Group is blue for a reason. Their give-or-take 95 minute show celebrates the senses with food, sound and, above all, color. Being blue is all a part of that. I suppose waiting 40 minutes past curtain time for the show to start (due to technical difficulties) on its Broadway Sacramento opening night can be counted part of the experience too.

Even with the short length of the actual show and one missing skit, it's an experience worth the wait, at least if you sit close enough to fully enjoy the finale's beach balls and toilet paper. The party favors never make it to the balcony, but everyone can follow the rock concert movements and dance. And it's one party fairly safe to bring the family to, as well.

Contrary to popular belief, the blue men do not dirty up the front rows too much. But do interact with the audience frequently. Even the balcony gets to see itself on giant LED screens. In between these humorous moments, the blue men make artistic statements with strobe and glow in the dark lighting, dramatic shadows and fascinating instruments made from pipes. In their trademark act, the men pour colored liquid onto drums and proceed to pound the colors into the sky. Later, they use paint balls of sorts to create paintings with their mouths.

The Blue Man Group starts with a percussion show and ends with a giant party. The people involved have been performing and creating for years now. They know how to give audiences a great time. Suffice it to say, because so much happens throughout the production, the complete experience goes beyond description.

If seeing is believing, you must see Blue Man Group. Don't forget to take advantage of photo opportunities after the show. And if you're a fan of their "music," you can always purchase their CD and listen to it all the way through twice on your way home.
