The B Street Theatre presents WIT by Margaret Edson Pulitzer Prize winning play continues B Street Theatre's hit "B3 Series"

The B Street Theatre, Sacramento's professional new works theatre, is pleased to present WIT by Margaret Edson. Winner of the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, WIT is the third production of the B Street Theatre's 2008-2009 "B3 Series."

WIT is the story of Vivian Bearing, Ph.D., renowned professor of English who has been diagnosed with terminal ovarian cancer. In her study of the metaphysical poems of 17th-century writer John Donne, she is intense and probing yet detached. In her journey through an experimental chemotherapy treatment, Vivian finds insight, humor and humanity. WIT was premiered in 1995 at South Coast Repertory and went on to win the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Lucille Lortel Award for best play. WIT is the first play by playwright Margaret Edson, who lives in Atlanta where she is an elementary school teacher.

WIT marks the return of B Street Theatre Acting Company member Julia Brothers who last appeared in Sacramento in the 2004 production of WHILE WE WERE BOWLING. Brothers, who will play Vivian Bearing, recently appeared in EVIE'S WALTZ at the Magic Theatre in San Francisco, and at the George Street Playhouse in New Jersey, playing opposite Marlo Thomas in ROGER IS DEAD, written and directed by Elaine May. Julia Brothers has appeared in many B Street Theatre productions, including BEAUTY QUEEN OF LEENANE, OFF THE MAP, THE MELVILLE BOYS and WOMEN WHO STEAL.

Greg Alexander, who previously directed A CHRISTMAS STORY and A YEAR WITH FROG AND TOAD for the B Street Theatre, directs a cast which includes Jason Kuykendall, Catherine MacNeal, Katie Rubin and David Silberman.

Performances for WIT begin with previews on Thursday and Friday, January 22 and 23 at 7:00pm, followed by an opening night Saturday, January 24 at 8:00pm, and runs through February 28. The press performance is Sunday, January 25 at 1:00pm. WIT runs Tuesdays through Fridays at 7:00pm, Saturdays at 8:00pm. Weekday matinee performances are scheduled Thursdays at 2:00pm (January 29, February 12 and 19). Ticket prices are $25.00 for Tuesday through Thursday performances, $30.00 for Friday through Saturday performances. Preview tickets are $12.00. Senior and student discounts are available for all shows, including $5.00 "student rush" tickets available ten minutes before curtain at every performance.

The B Street Theatre launched the "B3 Series" in 2007 as a four-show alternative series to the B Street Theatre's mostly comedy mainstage. The "B3 Series" offers more dramas and edgier works and has quickly become a popular series, growing its subscription base from 550 subscribers in its inaugural year to over 1,800 currently.

The B Street Theatre is located at the corner of 27th & B Street in Midtown Sacramento behind Stanford Park Baseball Field at 27th & C Streets.
