B Street Theatre, Sacramento's Resident New Works Theatre, is pleased to present the Regional Premiere of Buyer & Cellar, a one-man show by playwright Jonathan Tolins. Enjoying immediate success at the non-profit Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, Buyer & Cellar moved to the Barrow Street Theatre for an Off-Broadway run. Playing to sold-out houses for months, Buyer & Cellar received an Off-Broadway extension until April of 2014. The critically acclaimed production went on to receive a Chicago engagement followed by a US Tour through November 2014.

About Buyer & Cellar

"Winner of the 2014-2015 Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Solo Show.

Jonathan Tolins has concocted an irresistible one-man play from the most peculiar of fictitious premises-an underemployed Los Angeles actor goes to work in Barbra Streisand's Malibu, Calif., basement-allowing the playwright to ruminate with delicious wit and perspicacity on the solitude of celebrity, the love-hate attraction between gay men and divas, and the melancholy that lurks beneath narcissism. This seriously funny slice of absurdist whimsy creates the illusion of a stage filled with multiple people, all of them with their own droll point of view." - The New Yorker

Alex More (Nick Cearley) has a story to tell. A struggling actor in L.A., he takes a job working in the Malibu basement of a beloved megastar, Barbra Streisand. One day, the Lady Herself comes downstairs to play. It feels like real bonding in the basement, but will their relationship ever make it upstairs? Buyer & Cellar is an outrageous comedy about the price of fame, the cost of things, and the oddest of odd jobs.

B Street Theatre's B3 Series and Buyer & Cellar

B Street is pleased to present Buyer & Cellar as the second of four shows in our 2014-2015 B3 Series season. We believe that Buyer & Cellar is the perfect representation of B Street's B3 aesthetic and a wonderful follow-up to the first show of our B3 Season The (curious case of the) Watson Intelligence. Buyer & Cellar is funny, smart and often outrageous; an unpredictable but satisfying ride for both the serious theatre-goer and those who just want to have a good laugh. While B Street's Mainstage often produces plays that are considered to be mainstream or popular comedies, the B3 Series allows us to produce works that appeal to a more niche audience of the serious theatregoer. Since it's genesis in 2007, the B3 Series has become one of the many ways in which B Street offers theatre for everyone.
