B Street Theatre's Family Series, California's only fully professional, resident theater for children, is pleased to present Snow White and Rose Red, adapted for the stage by David Pierini.

Most of us know the Grimm's Fairy Tale Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. But there is another Snow White in the Grimm's canon. Snow White and Rose Red is a lesser known story by the Brothers Grimm that shares the character's name but very little else. There is a dwarf, but he is not the singing, helpful kind we met in Disney's version of Snow White. In Snow White and Rose Red, he is much more sinister.

In a small cottage in the woods, two bickering sisters live with their father. When their solitude is interrupted by the appearance of a kind bear and an evil dwarf, the sisters must learn to rely on each other as they attempt to understand the riddle behind the mysterious visitors' arrival.

Snow White and Rose Red is the 9th full-length play Mr. Pierini has written for the B Street Family Series. Other shows include Tom Sawyer, The Snow Queen, The Adventures of Pinocchio, Beauty and the Beast and Finding Our Voice; Susan B and the Women's Suffrage Movement. He also collaborated with Buck Busfield on an adaptation of Dickens' A Christmas Carol.

Dave finds writing for young audiences particularly rewarding. "I try to never write down' to the kids. The stories are simple: good versus evil; family; love conquers all, etc. But the feelings and thoughts of the characters are complex. Kids can completely relate to those feelings."

Play: Snow White and Rose Red from the Brothers Grimm.
