The producers of the Broadway show A Night with Janis Joplin have asked to reschedule all of their October 2017 engagements into 2018, impacting 19 venues in seven states from Minnesota to California, including theaters in Portland, Denver, San Diego, Beverly Hills...and the Harris Center in Folsom, where the critically acclaimed production was to perform four times on October 19-21.
"As much as we'd like to reschedule our Janis dates into the proposed rerouted dates in spring 2018, the hard fact is that our calendar is already heavily booked during this period and we couldn't find time to slip in the additional performances," notes Harris Center Executive Director Dave Pier. "As a result, we're making refunds to those that had already purchased tickets, and we'll work with the show's producers to see if we can instead bring the musical to the Harris Center in a future season."
The show, which explores both the music of Janis Joplin as well as musicians that strongly influenced her, ran on Broadway in the 2013/14 season and has subsequently been performed on tour and at a number of regional theatres around the country, including to critical acclaim this past June at San Francisco's American Conservatory Theatre where the show's run was extended.
"Touring theatrical shows across the country is a complicated business," notes Pier. "When this happens, no one likes it - not the actors, the producers, venues like ours, nor the audience. We had timed this engagement as a fun way to look back at the Summer of Love on its 50th Anniversary, but it turns out we'll need to wait a bit longer to do this. We thank our patrons for their patience and encourage them to contact our Ticket Office if they don't see a refund on their credit card this week."
Patrons who have purchased tickets by credit card should see a credit appear on their credit card account this week. Patrons who purchased tickets with cash or check should contact the Harris Center Ticket Office to arrange a refund at (916) 608-6888 (open noon to 6 pm, Monday - Saturday).
