Tennessee Williams’ inaugural full-length work – oft-produced and regarded as an American masterpiece – tells the heartbreaking story of a young girl, crippled in both body and spirit, whose mother relentlessly drives her toward a future that is nothing more than a recapitulation of the mother’s past. In the end, abandoned by the brother who loves her deeply – a poet patterned on Williams’ own self – she retreats into a present of glass animals and worn-out records. Directed by Lou Trapani for CENTERstage with an original score composed and performed by Paul Schubert. Performances will take place at Kaatsbaan in Tivoli.
