Grease is a 1971 musical by Jim Jacobs and WarRen Casey with additional songs written by John Farrar (movie and post revivals). Named after the 1950s United States working-class youth subculture known as greasers, the musical is set in 1959 at fictional Rydell High School and follows ten working-class teenagers as they navigate the complexities of peer pressure, politics, personal core values, and love.

The score attempts to recreate the sounds of early rock and roll. The show mentions social issues such as teenage pregnancy, peer pressure and gang violence; its themes include love, friendship, teenage rebellion, sexual exploration during adolescence, and, to some extent, class consciousness/class conflict. And... Grease is a comedy! It has become one of the most popular musicals of our time.

One of the most crowd-pleasing shows ever presented at Yorktown Stage is about to return, entertaining audiences over the summer. The favorite, which has played in front of 5,000 people at this venue in recent years, will have weekend matinee and evening performances.

Filled with songs that have charmed generations of parents and children - from "Summer Lovin" and "Greased Lightning" to "There Are Worse Things I Could Do." Plus the songs from the movie including "Grease," "Hopelessly Devoted to You" and the mega hit "You're The One That I Want".

We are pleased to welcome a professional cast filled with newcomers and Yorktown Stage favorites. Michael Civitano (NYC) stars as Danny Zuko along with Meaghan Elliott (Westport) as Sandy Dumbrowski. Kevin Cusi (White Plains) and Sarah Boyle (Dobbs Ferry) play Kenickie and Rizzo, respectively. Local favorites returning include Joey Sanzaro (Pleasantville) as Doody ("Beauty & The Beast", "Shrek" and "All Shook Up"), Jessica Bulzacchelli (Carmel) as Frenchie and Matthew Harmon (Cortlandt) as Vince Fontaine and Teen Angel ("Beauty and the Beast").

Under the dynamic direction of the Yorktown Stage Artistic Director, August Abatecola, the cast of 23 includes a stellar lineup of professional and local actors familiar to Hudson Valley audiences.

Grease is produced by Barry Liebman, president and producing director of Yorktown Stage. Add the musical direction by Ricky Romano, choreography by Carrie Silvernail, stage management by Casey Brehm, lighting design by Andrew Gmoser and sound design by Scott Tunkel and this production adds up to a whole lot of fun!

GREASE performances are Saturdays, July 29 and August 5 at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays, July 30 and August 6 at 1 pm.
