A Christmas Carol, with music by 9 time academy award winner Alan Menken and book and lyrics by Lynn Ahrens and Mike Ockrent, opens at Yorktown Stage on November 22. This is the spectacular musical adaptation of Charles Dickens's most well known story. Proving its staying power with a decade long run at Madison Square Garden, A Christmas Carol is an ideal choice to create a holiday tradition.
Ebenezer Scrooge and his ghostly encounters come to life in this lavish and thrilling Broadway adaptation. Starring in the production are Jeff Schlotman of Pleasantville as Scrooge, Jay Howard of New Fairfield as Marley's Ghost and Veronica Decker of Yorktown as the Ghost of Christmas Past. The talented Yorktown Stage creative team returns: August Abatecola as director, Carrie Silvernail as choreographer, Barry Liebman as producer and Stephen Ferri as musical director.
"With an infuriated "Bah! Humbug!" Scrooge summates his feelings of Christmas tidings and charitable giving, but he's forced to face his selfish ways when three ghosts on Christmas Eve lead him through his Past, Present, & Future," said Liebman. "Thanks to their guidance, Scrooge recognizes his faults and greets Christmas morning with a cheerful "Happy Christmas" before spending the day reconnecting and sharing love with those that mean the most to him" adds director Abatecola.
"As in the past, we have cast the best of Westchester's actors to complement a dozen or so prominent NYC professionals. We are very, very excited to have 18 children in the cast, exhibiting the importance of families in 19th century England." The children range in age from 8 - 18 and reside in Carmel, Cortlandt Manor, Katonah, Mahopac, Scarsdale, Somers and Yorktown.
A Christmas Carol runs November 22 - 30, 2014, with Saturday evening performances at 7:30 PM, Sunday matinees at 2:00 PM and a special Thanksgiving Friday performance at 2:00 PM.
