"Inspired by the 1936 black-and-white propaganda film of the same name, this raucous musical comedy tracks the mayhem that ensues when fresh-faced, clean-cut teenagers fall victim to society's "Public Enemy No. 1: an insidious and seductive evil: marijuana!" It's an uproarious downward spiral filled with decadence, corruption, dismemberment, zombies, some very rude behavior, and of course, Jesus," begin production notes. "At its core, this satire is a timely piece of political commentary, questioning the truth and motives of prominent mouthpieces, ultimately proving that sometimes even the most all-American of dreams can go up in a puff of smoke. This high-energy, high-camp and highly addictive romp will leave you giggling uncontrollably. One whiff and you'll be hooked!"
Under the direction of LRT artistic director Michael Mirra, the show will feature original choreography by Theresa Burns, and musical direction by George Croom. The cast of fourteen will feature Justin Santore (Jimmy), Alfred DalPino (Lecturer), Anna Chazelle (Mary), Christopher Coffey (Jack), Stephanie Viegas (Mae), Anthony Malchar (Ralph), Jennifer Greenman (Sally), Ileana Diaz (Placard Girl). Rounding-out the company will be Eric Betts, Olga Kantor, Andrea LeBlanc, Stephanie Schleicher, Michael Serpe, and Christopher Siley.
